NORFOLK, Va. - Defenceman Aaron Rome scored two goals as the Manitoba Moose downed the Norfolk Admirals 4-1 in American Hockey League action Friday.
Matt Pettinger and Marty Murray added empty-net goals for the Moose (16-12-4).
Radek Smolenak scored the lone goal for Norfolk (12-15-1).
Moose goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 29 shots in his 13th win this season.
Rookie goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 28 saves for the Admirals.
The Moose opened the scoring at 14:17 of the first period. Guillaume Desbiens carried the puck from behind the Admirals' net and fed it to Rome, who blasted the puck from the blue-line past Tokarski.
At 12:12 of the second period, Smolenak attempted to sneak a wrap-around past Schneider. The puck deflected off Moose defenceman Nathan McIver and over of Schneider to tie the game 1-1.
Rome broke the deadlock at 14:32 of the third period with a power-play goal.
In the dying minutes, Norfolk pulled Tokarski in favour of an extra attacker. Despite the extra man on the ice, the Admirals had a defensive slip-up allowing Pettinger to score an empty-netter.
With less than a minute left, Murray found the empty net with a backhanded shot to end the scoring.
