Former NHLer Warren Peters delivered a brutal check to the head of Lasse Bang in the Danish hockey league finals. The hit left Bang down on the ice and bloodied. There has yet to be any punishment handed out to Peters, but he could miss the rest of the playoffs due to the hit.

Former NHLer Warren Peters is in hot water following a violent hit to the head of opponent Lasse Bang in the finals of Denmark's Metal Ligaen.

During the third period of the first game of the finals, Peters, who plays for Sønderjyske, a team based out of the Danish city Vojens, came across and caught Bang in the head with a vicious elbow. Bang, who plays for the Esbjerg Energy, immediately went limp and spun before his body came crashing to the ice. In the video, it appears Bang's head slams off the ice. The hit was cause for immediate concern from Bang's teammates, who came rushing to his side and urged the team's medical staff to hurry onto the ice (video via Denmark's TV2):

Peters was given a game misconduct and five-minute major penalty for checking to the head on the play. During his years in North America, Peters suited up for 96 NHL games spread between the Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames and Minnesota Wild. He also spent time in the AHL with Portland Pirates, Utah Grizzlies, Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, Quad City Flames, Texas Stars, Houston Aeros, Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and Iowa Wild.

Peters, 32, is in his first season in Denmark. In 11 regular season games with Sonderjyske, he scored seven goals and 13 points, but has been held scoreless in three playoff games. Bang, 22, has made his career in the Danish hockey system and scored three goals and 13 points in his third full season in the men's league.

There has yet to be any discipline handed down to Peters, but the Danish league is reviewing the play.
