FRISCO, Texas - The Dallas Stars have locked up one of their best young players.

The NHL team announced Wednesday that it re-signed defenceman Trevor Daley to a US$6.9-million, three-year contract. He earned $800,000 last year.

"At just 24 years of age, Trevor continues to grow as a hockey player and we are looking for his game to improve over the next three years," said Stars co-GM Les Jackson. "He is a valuable member of our hockey club and is a key part to our strong nucleus of younger players."

Daley appeared in all 82 games this past season, racking up 24 points (5-19) along with 85 penalty minutes.

The Stars drafted him in the second round of the 2002 NHL draft. He's appeared in 264 career games for them and put up 13 goals and 43 assists for 56 points.
