10. Detroit. The Wings are led in scoring by two great defencemen: Nicklas Lidstrom and Mathieu Schneider.

11. Montreal. Enough about Sergei Samsonov's ice time.

12. Ottawa. A home-and-home with Toronto always feels good.

13. Toronto. Responded with huge efforts against Montreal and Atlanta.

14. Pittsburgh. Quietly Marc-Andre Fleury has had a great opening month.

15. New Jersey. That's the Marty Brodeur we know.

16. Carolina. The Cup champs have beaten the Thrashers twice.

17. Washington. Who knew? The Caps a game over .500 going into November.

18. N.Y. Rangers. Tom Renney isn't happy.

19. Tampa Bay. John Tortorella feels as good as Renney.

20. Colorado. Jose Theodore has his job back - for now.

21. St. Louis. Keith Tkachuk starting to pick it up.

22. Calgary. That "slow start" is heading into the second month of the season.

23. Los Angeles. Defenceman Brent Sopel had a good opening month.

24. Florida. Nathan Horton got in Jacques Martin's dog house last week.

25. New York Islanders. Miro Satan has one goal in 10 games.

26. Boston. Perhaps a season-saving win over Ottawa over the weekend.

27. Columbus. How long will Gerard Gallant last as coach?

28. Philadelphia. Two wins in three games for new coach John Stevens.

29. Phoenix. Yanic Perreault a smart pickup.

30. Chicago. The injuries hurt: three consecutive games without a goal.
