The rookie has been away from the team rehabbing his shoulder in Toronto

With the Oilers in Toronto to play the Maple Leafs on Monday, rookie Connor McDavid will re-join his teammates and fly back to Edmonton with the hockey club.

The 18-year-old has been in Toronto rehabbing his fractured clavicle suffered in the Oilers Nov. 3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

"He's ahead of schedule. I won't tell you where our schedule is,” Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli told the team’s website. “He had been working out in Toronto. He's going to come back with the team back to Edmonton when we leave Toronto.

“Maybe we put a conservative schedule on him and he's ahead. He's doing some exercises in the pool; he's doing some lifting exercises - not with his shoulder. He's working on his range of motion."

McDavid, who had surgery and was expected to miss four months, had five goals and seven assists in 13 games while averaging 18 minutes a night in ice time prior to the injury. He is still eighth in rookie scoring entering Sunday’s action.

“He's feeling really good. He's getting treatment, working on different things," McDavid's agent, Jeff Jackson, told Sportsnet per NHL.com. "He's one of those athletes, if he's told to do something he'll do it to the Nth degree. There are no shortcuts with this kid. He wants to get back as soon as he can. He hates watching, and he wants to be on the ice with his teammates as soon as he can. I know it's a cliché, but he hates it."

Edmonton is 3-6-2 in McDavid’s absence.
