In his first game back in the OHL since returning from injury and the WJC, Connor McDavid undressed a pair of Sarnia Sting defenseman for a highlight reel goal. If McDavid gets hot again, he could still realistically challenge for the OHL scoring title.
Well, that didn’t take long.
In his first game back in the OHL after missing nearly two months of action due to a broken hand and participating in the World Junior Championship, Connor McDavid put his incredible talent on display, absolutely undressing a Sarnia Sting defender for a highlight reel goal.
If the defender was turned the other way, McDavid’s goal would have been shades of Mario Lemieux. The goal was the 17-year-old phenom’s 17th of the season, which is impressive when you consider he’s only played in 19 games.
Currently tied for 10th in the league in points with 52, McDavid is unlikely to catch up to London Knights winger Mitch Marner (77 points) or Erie Otters teammate Dylan Strome (72), but you can be certain McDavid will at least make things interesting when it comes to the scoring title. If his points per game pace from before his injury keeps up, he should rack up easily over 100 points by season’s end.
