CLEVELAND - Christian Hanson had a hat trick and Alex Foster added two of his own as the Toronto Marlies pounded the Lake Erie Monsters 7-1 in American Hockey League play Friday.

Ryan Hamilton and Viktor Stalberg also scored for the Marlies (7-6-3), while Jiri Tlusty and Tyler Bozak each chipped in with three assists.

Marty Sertich had the only goal for Lake Erie (7-10-1).

Special teams played a key role for Toronto as the Marlies capitalized twice on the power play to go along with two short-handed goals.

Hamilton opened the scoring at 4:17 with Toronto down a man, and Hanson and Stalberg made it 3-0 after the first thanks to two power-play goals.

Sertich got Lake Erie to within two at 3:40 of the second, but Foster's first of the night at 4:54 restored Toronto's three-goal lead.

With the Monsters pressing to get closer in the third on the power play, starting goalie Trevor Cann was pulled for an extra attacker, but Hanson scored his second of the night into the empty net to make it 5-1 at 14:08.

Foster's second at 15:07 and Hanson's third at 16:55 rounded out the scoring for a 7-1 final.

James Reimer made 21 saves to pick up the win for Toronto, while Cann made 30 saves in the loss.
