Chris Pronger eye injury causes 'lots of concern'

Chris Pronger’s agent said there is “lots of concern” for the Philadelphia Flyers defenseman after he left Monday night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with an eye injury, but also said it’s too early to determine the extent of the damage.

Pat Morris said Pronger has significant swelling and blood in his right eye after being hit by Mikhail Grabovski’s stick on the follow through of a shot in the first period of Monday night’s game. He also said Pronger has blurred vision and has seen a Philadelphia eye specialist, who was called to the Wells Fargo Center to examine Pronger.

Morris would not rule out that the injury could be career-threatening, but emphasized it’s far too early in the process to tell how long Pronger will be out.

“I don’t think there’s any clarity on it yet,” Morris said. “The swelling will have to go down and the vision will have to be corrected before we know anything, but he’ll be out for a while.”

Morris said he has exchanged a number of text messages with Pronger and that the player has at least not lost his sense of humor.

"He said, ‘I’m still living,’ " Morris said.

Pronger had been off to a good start this season after missing 32 games with a number of injuries and last season and after having at least five surgical procedures – two on his hand, and one on each of his knee, back and foot.
