Chicago gave its general manager a contact extension on Monday. Tallon is only the eighth GM in the franchise's long history.

"I'm very excited that the Blackhawks have given me the opportunity to continue to work toward our goal of winning the Stanley Cup," said Tallon. "We are continuing to put together the pieces of the puzzle that are going to make the Blackhawks a very competitive team."

Tallon joined the Chicago front office in 1998-99. He has served as the team's director of player personnel and assistant GM prior to becoming the general manager.

The 56-year-old from Noranda, Que., is a former NHL defenceman. Tallon scored 336 points (98-238) in 642 games with Vancouver, Chicago and Pittsburgh.
