Stars like hockey too, and every once in a while they’re more interested in chatting up last night’s game than they are in pontificating about their latest TV or film projects. In the first installment of this new weekly feature, we talk with Sons of Anarchy star Billy Brown.
Stars like hockey too, and every once in a while they’re more interested in chatting up last night’s game than they are in pontificating about their latest TV or film projects. In this new weekly feature, we take five minutes with various celebrities to discuss their love of the good old-fashioned game of hockey.
Billy Brown, the lethal killer and cutthroat businessman August Marks on Sons of Anarchy; the muse to Viola Davis on How to Get Away with Murder; and “that guy” from Hostages, Dexter and The Following, was born and raised in California and is a Kings fan through and through.
Q: How excited were you when the Kings won the Cup last year?
A: I was there. I was there. I was there then and I was there two years ago when they won. It was fantastic.
Q: When did you first get into the game?
A: I grew up in Inglewood so I would go to games, not as often as I would like. But I grew up a seven-minute walk from the arena, from The Forum. Any sport where there’s contact, I’m into it.
Q: Did you ever think about playing yourself?
A: I’ve never played. In Inglewood there’s no ice, or there wasn’t growing up so it was hard to get into it.
Q: What about now, there are tons of leagues actors play in.
A: Yeah, I actually talked to Jerry Bruckheimer about that. He has that league. Maybe one day.
Q: Favorite player?
A: I really like Mike Richards man. Seventy-seven was bringing it. I mean it just…I like the defensive guys who can score, but also bring it physically. I guess small in stature, quick on the ice type guys.
Q: Anyone else?
A: I really, really like the physicality in the guys who are 6-foot-4, 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, but can move like a ballerina on the ice. And then put the puck in the net.
