RALEIGH, N.C. - Zach Boychuk is on his way back to the Western Hockey League.
The Carolina Hurricanes announced Monday that the 19-year-old forward would rejoin his junior team in Lethbridge for the rest of the season.
Boychuk was selected 14th overall by Carolina and missed the start of training camp while recovering from surgery on his left hand. He later returned and played his first two NHL games over the weekend.
"This has been a good experience for Zach," said Carolina GM Jim Rutherford. "Despite the fact that he was recovering from hand surgery, his play progressed very well. Another year of junior hockey will be good for his development."
Boychuk had 33 goals and 72 points for Lethbridge last season and helped lead the Hurricanes to the WHL final.
He was also part of the Canadian team that won gold at the world junior championship earlier this year.
