Trent Leon, a young boy from Anahim Lake, B.C., Carey Price’s hometown, made the journey to meet his idol in Montreal. After skating with Price and taking a few shots on the Canadiens goalie, Leon gave Price a gift that made the NHL star emotional.

Before he was a star NHL goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, Carey Price was just a boy growing up in a small British Columbia community called Anahim Lake, with a population of little more than 1,000.

In making the NHL, Price put Anahim Lake on the map, and the town proudly displays Price’s name on its sign and the local school supports the Canadiens goaltender with passion. So, for Trent Leon, the chance to meet his idol was a once in a lifetime experience, and for Price, it was an emotional meeting with a young man who gave him a gift he couldn’t have appreciated more:

If it got a bit dusty wherever you are, no one will blame you. It’s touching to see Trent have such an impact on Price in a short meeting, and it’s great to watch as Price flips through the cards and reads the messages.

The video, put together by Air Canada and the Breakfast Club of Canada, shows the tremendous impact athletes can have on youth, and the way small gestures can mean so very much. You can be sure Trent had no idea some cards from the children at his school would be met with such an earnest and heartfelt response from Price.

Good on you, Carey Price, for being great on and off the ice.
