Canucks Watch: Halloween costumes

A lot of Canuck players have dressed up as a Moose before, but have any of them ever been a cowboy? Or a ghost or a witch or a vampire? Probably not; at least not recently. But with Halloween around the corner, here are some costume ideas for the team:

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo –The Godfather, a brick wall or Gino Vanelli in the 1970s. Or Captain Canuck, of course.

Curtis Sanford – The Invisible Man. As in, you’re never going to see him.

DEFENSEMEN
Mattias Ohlund – Hmm, what can a 30-something Swedish defenseman go as? How about Borje Salming?

Willie Mitchell – A junkyard dog. Or a princess…but probably a junkyard dog.

Sami Salo – The big shooter who likes to blast away from afar would look best as a grassy knoll.

Kevin Bieksa – Can’t say his surname (BEEK-SA) without thinking about, well, birds, so how about a pterodactyl? Or maybe something more current like a hawk (but not a black one). And not a duck or a penguin…and definitely not a chicken.

Alex Edler – How about a wise old figure from the Middle Ages: Alex The Elder.

Shane O’Brien – Jack-O-Lantern.

FORWARDS
Daniel and Henrik Sedin – The same thing they go as every Halloween: Swedish twins. What else?

Pavol Demitra – If he could somehow go as a healthy hockey player, the Canucks would be overjoyed.

Ryan Kesler – He probably can’t squeeze into that Mark Messier costume, but maybe the Keith Primeau one will fit. Someday.

Alex Burrows – A platypus or a miner…whatever burrows better.

Steve Bernier – A hobo. Hey, someone has to be the hobo at Halloween, and it should be the guy who has gone from San Jose to Buffalo to Vancouver (and almost St. Louis) since last February.

Mason Raymond – He seems to have a James Bond look, so how about No. 21 as 007?

Taylor Pyatt – The third Sedin twin, Danrik.

Kyle Wellwood – A puppy dog. He’s got great paws, but still needs to be housebroken.

Jannik Hansen – The fourth Sedin twin, Jannrik.

Darcy Hordichuk – The Little Engine That Could (Punch).

Rick Rypien – The fifth Sedin twin, Rickrik.

Ryan Johnson – Change his first name to Howard and go as a hotel. OK…a motel.
