Francesco Aquilini has been accused of going behind his former business partners' backs to "scoop" the team away in 2004. Tom Gaglardi and Ryan Beedie began their case in B.C. Supreme Court today, arguing the team should be taken from Aquilini and placed in trust for them.
But Aquilini says he and his family are the rightful owners and he only wanted to ensure the Canucks stayed in Vancouver.
The case is bound to become a sensation with hockey celebrities such as former coach Brian Burke and the Canuck's former owner, the media-shy John McCaw, likely to testify.
It's expected to last at least two months.
