VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canucks defenceman Sami Salo left Monday's game against the Minnesota Wild after being hit by a slapshot.

Salo, who has a history of injuries during his time with the Canucks, was hit by a shot from Minnesota centre Kyle Brodziak in the final minute of the first period. The 36-year-old from Turku, Finland dropped to the ice, had trouble getting up and then left the game holding his left arm.

Vancouver's radio play-by-play broadcast crew reported during the game that Salo injured his elbow.

Salo was playing only his 16th game after missing most of the campaign with a torn Achilles tendon suffered while playing a form of floor hockey in Finland in July. The injury came just as he was starting to look and feel like his old self, having scored in two of his previous three games.

He has three goals and three assists this season with the Canucks and also scored two goals during a three-game conditioning stint with Manitoba of the American Hockey League.
