VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canucks forward Brendan Morrison will undergo wrist surgery and will be out indefinitely the NHL club said Wednesday.

Morrison first hurt the wrist during the exhibition season but continued to play. But it began really bothering him that he returned to Vancouver on Tuesday for an MRI following the Canucks' loss in Los Angeles Monday.

"After further consultation with our team doctors it was decided that surgery was the best course of action," Canucks GM Dave Nonis said in a statement. "The best long-term decision for Brendan and our hockey club is to have this addressed immediately."

The surgery ends Morrison's ironman streak. The Pitt Meadows, B.C., native played 542 consecutive NHL games, the league's longest current streak. The all-time record is 946 games held by Doug Jarvis of the Montreal Canadiens.

Morrison has eight goals and 12 assists in 30 games this year.

The Canucks have also lost goaltender Roberto Luongo (ribs) and forward Brad Isbister (hamstring) to injury.
