Canucks' Alex Burrows avoids serious injury despite taking a skate blade to the face

There have been a number of extremely close calls in the NHL this year involving players being cut by skate blades, and Canucks winger Alex Burrows was added to the list Sunday after he was injured by Detroit's Johan Franzen in a play that left Burrows stitched – and shaken – up.

The NHL has seen a number of players this season suffer frightening run-ins with the skate blade of an opponent, and Vancouver right winger Alex Burrows was added to the list Sunday after narrowly avoiding being catastrophically injured by Detroit's Johan Franzen. The 33-year-old Burrows was in the Canucks' zone and knocked down directly in front of goalie Ryan Miller in the second period when Franzen's right leg kicked back and up, arching underneath Burrows' visor and cutting him just below his left eye: Burrows was quite fortunate to be able to return to the game, but still needed seven stitches and was shaken up by the play:
