BROSSARD, Que. - The Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Dustin Boyd on waivers.

Coach Jacques Martin said Monday the club will see if another team is interested in the 23 year old, who has one goal and is minus-6 in nine games this season. If he is not claimed, he is expected to remain with the NHL club rather than be assigned to the minors.

"We'll see if there's any interest from other teams," said Martin. "If not, nothing changes."

The fifth-year NHL player signed as a free agent for US$650,000 this summer. After a slow start, Boyd was a healthy scratch for five games but has played the last three.

"It's a little disappointing, but you've got to stay positive," said Boyd.

Forward Lars Eller is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday night against the visiting Vancouver Canucks after sitting out one game.

And Maxim Lapierre practised Monday on a line with struggling centre Scott Gomez and Andrei Kostitsyn and should be in that spot against the Canucks.

"It's a great opportunity," said Lapierre, an agitator who is normally used on a checking line. "I'll try to make the most of it. If we can get four lines going it's good for the team."
