"It's possible but I want to make sure I'm ready before I make a decision to come back," Huet said Tuesday. "I want to get some shots and see how I feel. "I don't want to put the team in a hole."

The Canadiens' No. 1 goalie tore his left hamstring during a game Feb. 14 against New Jersey. He had surgery and was not expected back before the end of the regular season.

But he resumed skating more than a week ago and took part in a full practice on Monday. Coach Guy Carbonneau said there was a possibility he could return for a game Friday night in Ottawa or Saturday at home against Buffalo.

Huet, 31, said more practice this week will give him a better idea if he is ready, but it hasn't been determined if there is a risk of re-injury.

"It's close to being healed," he said. "But there's some damage close to the injury because of the work we put on the leg to come back this quick.

"That's why I have to see a doctor and figure that out before the weekend."

Huet had an up-and-down season before the injury, going 19-15-3 with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

While backup David Aebischer struggled in Huet's absence, rookie Jaroslav Halak took over the starting job. Halak was named third star in the NHL for last week, when he posted three straight wins.
