TORONTO - The Canadian hockey movie "Face Off" is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a Blu-ray/DVD release and a special screening that will help raise awareness of the impact of concussions.

The film features veteran Canuck actor Art Hindle in one of his first starring roles as a young rookie who comes to Toronto from a small Ontario town to play for the Maple Leafs.

The late John Vernon plays coach Fred Wares while Trudy Young portrays a local folk rocker who falls for the rookie but is turned off by his violent profession.

"Face Off" features about 20 minutes of actual NHL action that was woven into the storyline. Footage includes games involving legendary Original Six rival teams from Detroit, Chicago and Boston with players including Paul Henderson, Norm Ullman and a young Darryl Sittler facing off against Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Jean Beliveau.

A charity screening in Toronto on Nov. 3 will include a silent auction and a Q&A with the stars. Proceeds will go to stopconcussions.com.

"Face Off" will be released as a limited edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on Nov. 15.
