The Canadian team, made up of European-based pros and AHL players, needed a victory in its round-robin finale to qualify for Sunday's championship game.

Head coach Pat Quinn said his team rebounded well after a 5-0 loss to Russian club Khimik on Friday.

"To watch how they bounced back and came today to play was really satisfying," Quinn said. "Obviously all it does is get us in the door. We're playing in the championship game now and we've got less than 24 hours to make our mental switches."

Tim Brent, Domenic Pittis, Jay Harrison, Krys Kolanos and Stacy Roest scored for Canada. Thierry Paterlini scored both goals for Berlin.

Canadian goalie Justin Pogge was given a game misconduct after a skirmish early in the second period. He was replaced by Devan Dubnyk.

With the victory, Canada (3-1) moved ahead of Swedish team Mora IK (2-2) and into first place in the standings. HC Davos can also leap-frog the Swedes with a victory over Khimik (1-2) in Saturday's late game.

Canada lost to a Russian Super League team (Magnitogorsk) in last year's final. Canada last won the five-team international tournament in 2003.
