CALGARY - Forward Rene Bourque has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Calgary Flames.

Bourque will receive a total of $20 million over the next six years. He will get $8 million of that amount over 2010-12.

The NHL club made the announcement Thursday.

Bourque, 28, is in his second season with the Flames, who acquired the six-foot-two, 207-pound left-winger from the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional draft pick July 1, 2008. Bourque had a career-high 21 goals in his first season with Calgary.

Bourque, of Lac La Biche, Alta., has already set a career high for points this season with 41, including 18 goals.

Bourque has appeared in 280 career games and accumulated 156 points (72 goals, 84 assists).

Bourque originally was signed as a free agent by Chicago on July 29, 2004 out of the University of Wisconsin.
