NEW YORK - Phil Kessel just keeps on scoring and the NHL has taken notice.

The Boston Bruins winger was named the league's first star of the week on Monday after scoring three goals and eight points during four games.

Kessel has points in 15 straight games for the Eastern Conference-leading Bruins. It's the best run of the 21-year-old's career.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Petr Sykora was named the NHL's second star of the week while Buffalo Sabres winger Thomas Vanek was given the third star.

Sykora also had eight points in four games, including the first hat trick of his career during a 9-2 victory over the New York Islanders.

Vanek scored a league-leading five goals last week as the Sabres won three of four games. He leads the NHL with 24 goals this season.
