WILMINGTON, Mass. -- Boston Bruins defenceman Matt Hunwick was rushed by ambulance to hospital Saturday morning with a spleen ailment.

No other medical information was available.

Shane Hnidy will take Hunwick's place on the Boston roster tonight.

The Bruins were called to their practice facility in suburban Wilmington, Mass., for a team meeting prior to Game 2 of their opening-round playoff series against Montreal on Saturday night.

Reporters were granted access to the Boston dressing room when they were suddenly asked to leave. Moments later, two Wilmington police cruisers and two firetrucks were seen leaving the arena.

Bruins head coach Claude Julien confirmed that Hunwick, 23, left by ambulance with one of the team's trainers. Julien said the American-born defenceman was suddenly "not feeling well," and went to talk to the team trainers, who immediately called an ambulance.

The Bruins said a medical update is expected prior to the start of Saturday night's game.

Hunwick is in his second season with the Bruins. He appeared in 53 regular-season games this year, registering six goals and 21 assists.

Boston selected Hunwick in the seventh round, 224th overall, in the 2004 NHL entry draft.

Hunwick was involved in a Game 1 fight with Montreal's Mike Komisarek and needed stitches above his right eye. However, he did practise Friday.
