I have been following your Olympic previews and the latest THN blog (Edward Fraser, Nov. 19) continues to get the predictions wrong.
Mr. Fraser believes Russia will win the gold medal. Quite obviously the THN staff does not know its history, as you have not yet pointed out what I think is obvious.
The three Olympic games to feature participation from NHL players have had gold medal matches between three different and conveniently natural geographic and/or political rivals: Russia-Czech Republic (1998), USA-Canada (2002), and Sweden-Finland (2006).
Those medal matchups could not have been scripted better.
Presuming the historical trend to continue, clearly the 2010 gold medal will be decided between Latvia and Belarus.
