Gregory Campbell of the Columbus Blue Jackets skates against the Chicago Blackhawks
Campbell will skate in Kitchener while he awaits a trade or recall.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have suspended veteran forward Gregory Campbell for not reporting to their American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, according to Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch.
Portzline reports the Blue Jackets attempted to trade Campbell prior to placing him on waivers, but could not find an interested team.
"He's a great guy and he's had a great career,” said Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen. “But we only have a 23-man roster, and he didn't make our team."
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Campbell will skate in Kitchener while he awaits a trade or recall.
The 32-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $3 million contract.
In 803 career NHL games split between the Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins and Blue Jackets, Campbell has 71 goals and 187 points to go along with 696 penalty minutes.
