Dubinsky was a late scratch from Friday night's 2-1 win in Pittsburgh with an upper body injury. The injury forced John Tortorella to dress seven defencemen and 11 forwards.

With Brandon Dubinsky questionable due to an upper body injury, the Columbus Blue Jackets recalled Kerby Rychel from the Lake Erie Monsters on an emergency basis on Saturday.

Rychel is currently the Monsters’ leading scorer with 11 points in 10 games.

Dubinsky was a late scratch from  Friday night’s 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

According to Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch, the injury would’ve occurred at some point during the day as Dubinsky appeared “healthy and eager to play” on Friday morning.

“It’s an upper body injury and I’m not sure what the timetable is,” said Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella postgame. “I’ll know more tomorrow. It was not this morning, no. Something just flared up on him and upper body.”

Dubinsky has four goals and seven assists in 16 games this season. His 11 points trail only Scott Hartnell (13) for the team lead. The 29-year-old also leads all Blue Jackets forwards in average ice time per game with 18:46.

Without Dubinsky in the lineup, Tortorella dressed seven defencemen and 11 forwards in Pittsburgh. Dalton Prout started the game on Columbus’ fourth line with Gregory Campbell and Jared Boll.

Blue liner Ryan Murray, who was expected to be a healthy scratch, went into the lineup.

“You lose a big guy, he eats up a lot of minutes,” said Tortorella. “Guys are moved in and out of position. Murr is brought in right away, barely made warm-up. It’s funny how this game works.”

Columbus plays host to the Arizona Coyotes tonight. The Blue Jackets only had 12 forwards and 21 players on its active roster prior to the Rychel recall.
