The Chicago Blackhawks have suspended prospect Garret Ross “indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal process,” the team announced Wednesday evening. Ross, 23, was charged with non-consensual dissemination of sexual images, also known as “revenge porn.”

The Chicago Blackhawks have suspended 23-year-old prospect Garret Ross indefinitely days after reports surfaced that he has been charged with one count of has non-consensual dissemination of sexual images, also known as “revenge porn.”

The Blackhawks said they only learned about the charges against Ross on Saturday, which coincided with the first of two games the winger was scratched with over the weekend. When scratched, Rockford IceHogs coach cited a “coach’s decision,” but the reason for Ross’ absence from the lineup was made more clear when reports began to surface Tuesday of the charge against Ross. The Blackhawks announced their suspension of Ross on Wednesday evening.

The Blackhawks full statement is as follows: “On Saturday afternoon, March 19, 2016, the Chicago Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs learned of a legal proceeding against IceHogs player Garret Ross. At that time, we excused Garret from team activities pending our preliminary review of the matter. After further review, we have determined to suspend Garret indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal process. Because this is a pending legal proceeding, we will have no further comment at this time.”

According to the Chicago Tribune’s Chris Hine and Stacy St. Clair, the charge against Ross stems from an incident that involved a woman who had previously been in a relationship with one of Ross’ IceHogs teammates. Ross was charged on Feb. 2 following a four-month investigation, per Hine and St. Clair, but was released on bond and allowed to travel out of state while awaiting trial. It was requested by the woman that the teammate also be charged, but police told St. Clair and Hine that no charges have been brought against the teammate.

Ross is set to appear for a status hearing on March 28 and a preliminary hearing has been set for April 22, per court documents.

Drafted in the fifth round, 139th overall, Ross has spent the past three seasons in Rockford and has never found his way into the Blackhawks’ lineup. He is in the final campaign of his three-year, entry-level contract and will become a restricted free agent at season’s end.
