Blackhawks edge Canucks, clinch playoff berth

Chicago becomes the fifth Western Conference team to clinch a playoff berth joining the Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, L.A. Kings and Anaheim Ducks. The Washington Capitals remain the lone team in the Eastern Conference to clinch.

The Chicago Blackhawks punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

It marks the eighth consecutive postseason appearance for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

With the win the Blackhawks have now won back-to-back games for the first time since Feb. 28 and March 2.

Andrew Ladd, a native of nearby Maple Ridge, B.C., scored the eventual game-winner with 2:27 remaining in the third. The 30-year-old now has six goals and nine points in 13 games since his trade from the Winnipeg Jets.

Chicago moves four points behind the Stars and Blues for first place in the Central Division.

The Blackhawks have now won 11 straight games against Canadian teams outscoring them 42-8.

The Canucks meanwhile have now lost eight straight games.

This season will mark the second in the past three Vancouver has missed the playoffs. The Canucks sit 28th overall – two points up on the last-place Toronto Maple Leafs.
