Former star players Jean Beliveau, Senator Frank Mahovlich and Dickie Moore, former coaches Scotty Bowman and Claude Ruel and others from the organization were among about 150 to attend the one-hour service at St. Elizabeth of Hungary church in the picturesque Eastern Townships village.

Pollock, who died last week in Toronto at 81, was remembered as a devout and generous member of the parrish, who prayed and read the bible an hour each day, attended church every Sunday and who asked only that his good works not be made public.

Pollock was named vice-president and general manager of the Canadiens in 1964. In 14 years, he built nine Stanley Cup-winning teams. He was selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.

He later served on the board and was CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays.
