Nine months after Carolina won the NHL championship in June, five current or former Hurricanes couples are expecting babies. All the women are due within the next four months. Anne Adams, wife of right-winger Craig Adams, said there has been plenty of jokes about how much fun must have been had last summer after the team won the championship title.
"Everyone's like, 'Is there something in the water?"' said Adams, who is expecting the couple's first child in July. "Everyone was partying this summer. ... It just seemed like good timing. Craig signed a new contract. We had the greatest summer of our lives. Maybe it's now time to start trying."
Former Hurricanes forward Kevyn Adams, who was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in January, and his wife Stacey also are expecting in July.
Christy Karmanos and her husband Jason, vice-president and assistant general manager of the Hurricanes, are expecting a child in April.
Expecting in June are Jennifer Daniels and husband Jeff, an assistant coach.
Only one of the couples - defenceman David Tanabe and wife Katie, who is expecting in May - were not with the Hurricanes last year.
