TORONTO - With rumours still swirling that the Oshawa Generals may be set to move star forward John Tavares, other Ontario Hockey League teams are making moves ahead of Friday's trade deadline to get ready for the stretch run.

One team reported to be interested in the services of the world junior hockey championship MVP, the Windsor Spitfires, completed a trade Wednesday with the Kitchener Rangers.

The Spitfires acquired defenceman Ben Shutron, goaltender Josh Unice and forward Scott Timmins. In return, the Rangers received goaltender Brandon Maxwell, forward Jacob Lalonde, a third-round draft pick in 2009 and second-round selections in 2010 and 2011.

There were reports this week that the Spitfires and London Knights were getting close to landing Tavares, who is a favourite to be selected first overall at the 2009 NHL entry draft.

Also Wednesday, the Plymouth Whalers sent goaltender Jeremy Smith and right-winger Patrick Lee to the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft, an eighth-round pick next year and a fourth-rounder in 2011.
