NEW YORK - Andrei Markov's season hasn't gone unnoticed. The Montreal Canadiens power-play quarterback leads all Eastern Conference defencemen in NHL all-star fan balloting.

Markov, who has 17 points in 20 games, had 48,134 votes in the first week of voting, ahead of Boston Bruins giant Zdeno Chara (45,949), Tomas Kaberle of the Toronto Maple Leafs (36,125) and Brian Campbell of the Buffalo Sabres (33,857).

The voting, which determines the starting lineups for the Jan. 27 NHL all-star game in Atlanta, continues through Jan. 2.

Pittsburgh Penguins superstar centre Sidney Crosby had a monster lead among forwards, his 94,118 votes more than doubling the total from Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, who was second with 41,198.

Daniel Briere of the Philadelphia Flyers was third with 32,751 votes, followed by Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals with 30,686 and Vincent Lecavalier of the Tampa Bay Lightning with 28,615.

New York Rangers star Henrik Lundqvist led all Eastern Conference goaltenders with 30,324 votes, followed by Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils (29,631), Martin Biron of the Flyers (27,849) and Cristobal Huet of the Canadiens (24,515).
