Giguere had the procedure in North Carolina and the Ducks expect him to rejoin the team possibly as early as the club's first practice on Sept. 10.

The Montreal native led the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup title last season.

He played in 56 games, posting a record of 36-10-8 with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.26 and a .918 save percentage.

In the Ducks' Stanley Cup run, Giguere went 13-4 with a 1.97 GAA and a .922 save percentage.

The 30-year-old Giguere became an unrestricted free agent after the season, but decided to remain in Anaheim. He signed a four-year, US$24 million contract with the Ducks on June 21.

Giguere earned $3.99 million last season.
