SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Veterans Alexandre Giroux and Mark Wotton were named captains for the American Hockey League All-Star Classic on Friday.

The captains are chosen by league president and CEO David Andrews in recognition of their outstanding service and leadership in the AHL.

Giroux, a Quebec City native who plays for the Oklahoma City Barons, will captain the Western Conference team in the Jan. 31 game in Hershey, Pa.

He's been one of the top offensive performers in the league over the past decade, scoring 316 goals (tied for 14th all-time) and 281 assists for 597 points in 662 games. He's added 100 points in 112 playoff games since turning pro with Grand Rapids in 2001.

Giroux was named the AHL's most valuable player in 2008-09.

Wotton, an American on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, will captain the Eastern Conference squad.

He leads all active players with 849 AHL games (20th all-time) and has served as his team's captain in 11 of his 14 AHL seasons.
