SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American Hockey League appointed Rod Pasma as its executive vice-president of hockey operations Monday.

Pasma, 37, of Georgetown, Ont., will oversee all aspects of the leagues hockey operations department, including management of the AHL's officiating program, recruiting, hiring and assigning on-ice officials to supplement those in the NHL development program.

Pasma will also oversee the AHL's disciplinary process for fines and suspensions and will develop and execute the leagues regular-season and playoff schedules.

"We are very excited to be able to bring someone of Rods experience and background in to lead our hockey operations department," AHL president David Andrews said in a statement.

Pasma spent seven seasons with the ECHL, where he most recently served as senior vice-president of hockey operations. He also worked as the officiating co-ordinator for the NHL for two seasons, handling supervision, scouting and evaluation as well as the assignment of AHL officials and trainees.

Pasma was a second-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 1990 and the former defenceman earned a degree in economics from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ont.
