AMHERST, N.Y. - Sabres right-winger Maxim Afinogenov's return from a slight groin tear was derailed when he left Monday's practice early after experiencing pain.

Afinogenov, who has missed the past 13 games because of the injury, had been expected to play Tuesday when the Sabres visit Boston, but he felt more discomfort in his groin midway through the team's workout.

"We don't really know how bad it is. He's just feeling it again," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said after practice. "He's trying to get through it, but it's been a long time. We felt (Tuesday) would be the day we'd get him back in, and we thought everything looked like a go."

A two-time 20-goal scorer, Afinogenov has struggled for most of the season. He has just seven goals and 11 assists in 38 games.

Ruff didn't have an updated timetable for Afinogenov's return.

Meanwhile, Jaroslav Spacek practised fully after having tests on an upper-body injury earlier in the morning. Ruff was optimistic the defenceman will be able to play against the Bruins.

Right-winger Drew Stafford practised and should play Tuesday after missing Friday's shootout loss to Atlanta because of an ankle injury. Goalie Ryan Miller is also ready to play after missing the third period of Friday's game because of a bruised knee.

Centre Tim Connolly continues to be sidelined because of a bone spur on his hip. Ruff said Connolly will skate this week to see how the hip responds.
