It's quiet around hockey circles so far this August, but things are bound to pick up; and why rookies may negotiate for smaller salaries.
Things are so quiet around The Hockey News office, you can literally hear a pin drop. True story. With web editor Rory Boylen, myself and interns Kyle Palantzas and Jamie Ross holding down the fort while the eight other chaps in editorial are on vacation, the newsroom got very quiet.

The supply-and-demand nature of the crease dwellers has resulted in some odd happenings this off-season, and it's far from over.

In a weak induction class, Nieuwendyk leads the way and touched the threshold of greatness along the way in his career.

The Chicago Blackhawks have an excellent chance to put an end to the NHL’s longest Stanley Cup dry spell, which stands at 49 years. That has been the Hawks’ festering albatross ever since the New York Rangers won in 1994, ending a 54-year drought.

Many Toronto fans are hanging their heads over losing the chance at Tyler Seguin or Taylor Hall, but what about the other two draft picks?
We all know Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke will forever defend the 2009 deal that cost Toronto two first round draft picks and a second-rounder in exchange for Phil Kessel.

Contenders at the start of the year, Calgary would be lucky to make the playoffs this season, so it's time for a change in team philosophy.
The time has come for the Calgary Flames to bid adieu to the Sutters. Though still mathematically alive to make the playoffs, the fact of the matter is the Flames have regressed in giant steps this season and have no business competing for the Stanley Cup.

More than 30 years after it ceased operations, the WHA is finally being honored for its role in hockey.
The lights went dim on the rogue World Hockey Association more than 30 years ago. But the builders and stars from the rival professional league are getting some time in the spotlight this season thanks to the creation of the WHA Hall of Fame.
