In the salary cap era teams are forced to let go of players they'd rather keep, but this won't stop the Wings from winning... and new additions to thn.com.
What goes up, must come down.
And what is true in physics must also be true in the salary-capped NHL.

Comparing the accessibility of players at the NHL All-Star Game with its NBA counterpart is night and day, and the NHL should take notice.
Coming out of the lockout, fans and media types alike were promised a new era of accessibility to NHL players.
Promises, I suppose, are meant to be broken.

The trade deadline is one of the most exciting days of the year for fans, so it's frustrating when mediocre teams hold onto players to try and sneak into the playoffs.
When I was a kid growing up – as opposed to growing out, which I constantly have to fight now – the trade deadline was it.

Monday’s news that Teemu Selanne – he of 48 goals and 94 points last season – was returning to the lineup automatically vaults an already impressive Ducks squad into contention to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

Early in the season, the NHL standings wouldn't have changed much without the loser point, so how different would they be on the eve of the All-Star break?
Back in early December, I wrote a blog entry on how I detest the “loser point” to the core of my being and provided how the standings would look if the NHL used a straight “two points for a win, none for a loss” system.

The Winter Classic was great, but the idea should be used for the All-Star game... crease problems in L.A. and Tampa... and thoughts on the Hawks.
I’ll be the first one to admit I’m a big fan of NHL games held outdoors.
The spectacle of 70,000 fans crammed into a football stadium, the awe on players’ faces—too difficult to mask—and the game time snowstorm was all a pleasure to watch.
