The debate over who was the better Penguin, or even the best in the world, used to be one-sided. But that's not the case anymore.
As recently as a few months back, the notion was preposterous: nobody in his right mind would take Evgeni Malkin over Sidney Crosby.
But after ‘The Kid’ succumbed to an ankle sprain and endured a lengthy recovery, and Malkin emerged as a Hart Trophy finalist, the concept has nudged its way to “not as whacky as we first thought” on the credibility meter.

What to do about Sean Avery and his in-Martin-Brodeur's-face antics?
Our knee-jerk reactions to Sean Avery’s ludicrous impression of Martin Brodeur’s windshield wipers were:
a) you can’t do that
b) should be an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty
c) man, you can’t do that!
The problem is, up until Monday afternoon when the league sent out a new directive, you could.

For the Leafs and their long-time captain to part ways now would be an unfit ending to their story... and some head-scratching stats.
It can’t end like this, can it? It shouldn’t.
If Mats Sundin is the man of integrity we believe he is, and the Maple Leafs are sincere in their publicly expressed desire to bring him back, the 37-year-old will return to the “center of the hockey universe” for a swan song season, a chance to say a proper good-bye and give a fan base starved for gratification something to feel tingly about.

To prevent the travesty that is "tanking" the end of the season, make non-playoff teams earn the No. 1 draft position... and fighting in major junior hockey isn't necessary.
The NHL’s draft drawing system isn’t severely broken, but rewarding futility with the privilege of selecting the best prize available has always gnawed at me.

If the league hopes to produces more offense, they certainly have a funny way of showing it... and the over-the-glass rule isn't OK.
The recently completed GMs meetings in Florida produced a mixed message when it comes to offense in the NHL: do they want more or less of it?
Of all the concepts the execs examined, the two generating the most buzz were smaller goalie gear and one-minute penalties in OT.
