If Terry Pegula runs the Buffalo Sabres with a dedication to winning, it will be a boon to the city of Buffalo.
As the Terry Pegula Ownership Era begins in Buffalo, my hope is that it’s an improvement on the Tom Golisano Ownership Era. This is not to say that Golisano, the exiting owner of the Queen City’s Sabres, is a perfidious cad on par with Jon Gosselin or ‘Boots’ Del Biaggio.

As the Flames veteran prepares for retirement, his presence won't be missed by just teammates, but by fans and journalists, too.
When I spoke to Flames center Craig Conroy just prior to the start of this season, he was as cheerful as ever. “I’m just glad to be playing another year,” the 39-year-old said at the time.

Thanks to a plethora of puzzling personnel moves, Darryl Sutter is no longer the Flames' GM. And his eventual successor has a big mess to clean up.
A while ago, a former NHL GM gave me a great insight into his profession – specifically, the reason why GMs make what most people would consider to be stubborn decisions: “Look, GMs are supposed to believe in their players, in their coaches, in their entire staff,” the ex-GM said.

While the idea of a new owner has been welcomed by many in Leafs Nation, the rumored sale to Rogers Communications more likely means more of the same.
Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs were rocked Wednesday by reports that controlling interest in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the corporate colossus that owns the franchise (as well as other sports properties), could be sold to Canadian cable giant Rogers Communications for $1.

While both Colorado and Washington benefit this season from the deal, the Avalanche come out on top for upgrading in talent.
As with all trades, the Tuesday deal that sent defenseman Scott Hannan to the Washington Capitals and left winger Tomas Fleischmann to the Colorado Avalanche has to be examined and judged by its current and future implications.

The NHL's chief disciplinarian Colin Campbell has been in the news lately, which has led to questions about his job.
Modern society is of two minds when it comes to authority figures. On the one hand, we regularly sneer at and deride people who wield power over us and/or the things and people we love; think of the hapless principal in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the chorus of Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name Of” and the general animus towards Gary Bettman.
