Playing with stars boost a player's production significantly.
Sometimes, when you're scanning through the top scorers, a player catches your eye. He stands out because you are certain he's not yet ready to be such a force, or perhaps he doesn't have the talent to hold such a lofty position.

Our fantasy expert looks at 10 players who have done way more than poolies could have predicted.
We're nearly a third of the way into the campaign already. While Peter Pessimist rants and raves about how Alex Ovechkin is sucking and Brian Elliott isn't repeating his surprise 2011-12 season, the optimists can take some positives from the early numbers.

Players who got in game action over the lockout are reaping the benefits early in the shortened NHL season.
Take a look at the top scorers in the NHL after seven or eight games. Notice anything peculiar? Aside from the unsustainable points-per-game rates, several players in the scoring race are the same guys who saw some action in Europe during the lockout.

Some top players are off to slow starts, but is it too early to cut the cord and trade them off?

by Darryl Dobbs - January 28, 2013 3:45 PM EST

The Islanders have a recent history of plucking players from the AHL and turning them into gold.
When the Islanders grabbed career minor-leaguer Keith Aucoin off waivers, my first thought was Matt Moulson. My next thought was P-A Parenteau.

Some top goalies are off to poor starts, but be careful not to abandon ship too early.

Bubble Boys

Bubble Boys

Ice time speaks volumes if you're on the fence about whether to take a player on the bubble.
Sure, we're only one or two games in, but you can still pick up on some early trends developing. Pay no attention to the points. A player's points total will average out over enough games (sorry Vanek owners, he won't finish with 240 points in 48 games).
