In the week-ending mailbag: Where does Niemi fit in?; does Wilson have to win?; and another bet against Columbus.
What would your reaction be if an NHL legend stood up today and said the following:
“Concussions have brought the consciousness to the problem, but I think the problem is (sport)-related injuries period and the lack of support from the league of those players who have suffered those injuries…the denial factor has been unbelievable.

This week's mailbag discusses the biggest disappointment in draft history, government-funded arenas and more.
There are many ways to write the introductory paragraph to a hockey mailbag. This is one of them.
Bonjour Adam. Here in Quebec we are having a tough debate on government money for a new arena for an NHL team.

Can price lead Montreal to the dance? The blogosphere? New Avalanche owner? And Thomas vs. Rask.
Kovalchuk. Kaberle. Coyotes ownership. There – that’s the last you’ll see of any of those words in today’s mailbag. Hope everyone has a safe and joyous Labor Day weekend.

In the week-ending mailbag: who gets the C?; what of Manny Fernandez?; Russia dominating in 2014; and more.
Hey gang – did you hear, courtesy of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, that fan reaction to his league’s participation in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics was “a mixed bag?”
It is to laugh – and it is to laugh heartily, for an extended stretch of time, and possibly to the point of internal injury.

In the last Adam-less mailbag of the summer, THN staffers answer on Ray Emery, Marc Savard, buyouts and more.
Adam’s off for one more Friday, so for the final time this summer THN staffers will tackle the mailbag.
A new hockey season is on the horizon, but there are still plenty of rumors swirling, trades to be made, free agents to be signed and rosters to be completed.

With Adam away, web editor Rory Boylen answers your questions on a wide array of topics.
As Brian Costello so accurately pointed out in his blog, it’s a little quiet around the THN office this week. Summer’s in the air, my golf scores are at all-time highs and it doesn’t look as though the slow-pitch team will be winning any banners this year.

In the mailbag: How do teams decide where to put youngsters? Where will Patrick O'Sullivan end up? Are dynasties dead?
It's vacation days Proteau for this week (and the next two. Lucky SOB), so the other staffers step up to respond to your off-season queries.
Hey Adam, I am relatively new fan of hockey.

Can the Cats pull it off?; Is Frolov a fit in Toronto?; No hockey at the ESPYs; Jay Feaster in Calgary; and more
In the next three weeks – this is very tough – I'm going to take my talents on vacation. Therefore, there will be no Screen Shots column until Aug.
by Adam Proteau - July 16, 2010 2:40 PM EDT
How did the Bruins land Tyler Seguin?; who deserves the next NHL franchise?; European NHL coaches?; and more.
A good Friday to everyone except those reading this on another day. Some quick housekeeping items before a selection of your questions and my answers:

In the mailbag: questions about the Blue & White, Black & White, an All-Canada League, and Mike Rathje.
Now that the poor people of Cleveland have been devastated and disgusted by LeBron James’ decision to abandon them for the sticky glitz of Miami, what better time for Gary Bettman to strike while the iron is hot (not to mention the pitchforks and torches) and award Northern Ohio an NHL franchise?
Call them the Cleveland Loyalists – or the Cleveland Non-Bron-Brons, or the Cleveland NeverGonnaGiveYouUps – and I’m guessing you’ve got 41 instant sellouts at Quicken Loans Arena.

Sabres biggest losers? Future considerations? Salary cap loopholes? What should the Oilers do? And more.
Well, that was a fun first day of free agency, wasn’t it? Defensemen held all the bargaining power; big-name goalies such as Evgeni Nabokov and Marty Turco appear to have priced themselves out of a full-time NHL job; and to keep things light, the usual GM suspects in Manhattan and Calgary delivered a heap of humor for fans of every team except the Rangers and Flames.

“I think when you’re at home the first two games, sometimes you get a little bit too comfortable at home. Then you come on the road, maybe it’s like a rude awakening…We’ve had three series to figure that out, learn it. We definitely want to be better (Monday), especially in the first game on the road.”
- Chicago's Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks are 0-3 in Game 3s this playoff.
