Some may find it hard to believe, but I actually was a ‘puckhead.’ Like many in this country, hockey was an obsession for me growing up, as I spent virtually every spare minute with a stick in my hands.

Sure there were lots of players involved, but how many of those players were top quality and will improve their new team's fortunes?
When the Toronto Maple Leafs make a trade, especially one involving seven players, those of us in the media feel compelled to address it. Add me to that list, with some reluctance.

Given the great divide in talent across nations, limiting the world juniors to the best four hockey nations would make for a more interesting tournament.
"The end does not justify the means." It's a phrase we have all used at some point.
But as the World Junior Championship came to its conclusion in Saskatoon, we are left to wonder if "the means did not justify the end.

How fair is it that the Capitals superstar will be banned from playing if he was going to miss the games due to injury regardless?
The NHL’s decision to suspend Alex Ovechkin for two games as a result of his knee-to-knee hit on Tim Gleason raises a few questions. Understand that I don’t object to the suspension itself or even the length of the punishment.

Enough already! Get rid of the shootout!
Whatever the objectives may have been, this contrived method of determining which team is deserving of victory at the conclusion of a hockey game that has twice ended in a tie is a monumental failure.
