A new No. 1 emerges in THN's power rankings while the Blues continue their climb up the ladder.
Are we witnessing the start of a new St. Louis streak?
The Blues made the playoffs every year from 1979-80 through 2003-04. And while none of those berths resulted in so much as a trip to the Cup final, it’s still a stretch worth saluting.

The Wings are back at No. 1, but a late-season surge has the Hurricanes looking to do some damage.

Playoffs are out of the question, but the Thrashers and Islanders are putting together solid runs to close out the campaign.
Becoming the Ontario League’s all-time leading goal-scorer did nothing to endear John Tavares to the Atlanta Thrashers or New York Islanders.

The Devils continue to hold down the No. 1 spot, but the Pens jump 12 positions and look like they're back on track.
A couple of weeks ago, people were talking about Pittsburgh’s potential to do some damage in the first round of the playoffs.

Our weekly rankings are shifting and the Hawks are starting to look like potential Western Conference champs.
If there’s a team ready to exploit a seam in the West, it’s the Chicago Blackhawks.

The New York Rangers are going in the wrong direction, but the New Jersey Devils are on top with Martin Brodeur itching to return.
Given the way the New York Rangers started the season, it's incredible to see how bleak things have become on Broadway.
A Blueshirts team that posted 10 wins in October has just one this month with February past its halfway point.

The B's are back on top, but L.A. is heading in the right direction in this week's countdown of the NHL teams.
For the L.A. Kings, post-season experience is more valuable than another high draft pick.
The Kings are one of those limbo teams that could fall out of contention and call the name of a hot prospect come June or claw their way into a playoff spot.

Perhaps a new bench boss can get Ottawa to reverse its downward trend in the standings and the THN.com power rankings.
Boy, what Ottawa Senators fans would give for a good old-fashioned post-season flop right about now.
For the Sens to choke in the playoffs, they’d have to first make them, of course.

The Philadelphia Flyers certainly look like a playoff team, but can they stand up to the teams at the top of our rankings?
If there is one label every club aspires to, it's 'playoff team.'
In a recent debate over who might emerge from the East, it was suggested by one THN staffer that the Philadelphia Flyers have the genetic make up of a squad destined for post-season success.

A big win puts the teal on top, but expect big things from New Jersey when their star returns.
It looks as though we’ll finally find out if the critics are right about the New Jersey Devils.
The first thing we’ve heard on the heels of recent early playoff exits by the Devils goes something to the effect of, “If Marty Brodeur wasn’t too tired to lift his arms, New Jersey would still be playing.

"Last year we came in as maybe an underdog, quietly. Got off to the right start just because teams weren't really ready for us. But this time around that's not the case. They realize we are a good team and they're ready to go against us, right off the get-go."
- Los Angeles' Colin Fraser. The Kings have lost two in a row and are now tied 2-2 in their series against the San Jose Sharks.
