I’m sitting here soaking up the sun at my summer home in California with my feet up. Life’s tough, right? While I indulge in the annual off-season pleasures, my mind is trapped elsewhere.

The Stanley Cup-winner currently plying his trade in the American League takes an inside look at preparing for the post-season.
While the NHL took a two-week break for the Winter Olympics, that certainly was not the case for the American League. In fact, during the “Olympic Break” we had our toughest and most important stretch of the season, an eight-games-in-10-nights run that we had been preparing for all season.

In three years I feel like I have played hockey in all corners of the world. Not quite, but close enough. Not to take anything away from Sweden, but it is certainly good to be back in North America.

People say hockey players use too many cliches, but I’m afraid I have to throw another one out there: What a difference a year makes. I finished the 2007 season playing a limited, but valued, role on the blueline of a Stanley Cup-winning team.
