An unbelievable goaltending performance gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead over Montreal, while real Caps and Rangers showed themselves in Game 1 and Jonathan Quick gave up another weak, game-winning softie.
Game 1: Ottawa 4 at Montreal 2

The Leafs and Islanders both returned to playoff action after long layoffs...and the rust showed. Meanwhile, the Canucks' top players were outmatched by San Jose's.
Game 1: Toronto 1 at Boston 4
Why Boston won: Because, after the Leafs jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:54 into the game, the Bruins exploited Toronto’s inexperience – defensemen Mark Fraser and Mike Kostka were abysmal and a combined minus-4 – dominated in terms of puck possession (limiting the visitors to just 20 shots on Tuukka Rask) and wore down a heavily-worked James Reimer (who stopped 36 of 40 shots) with a slew of high glove shots.

The Wild hold tight with the Hawks, but will Josh Harding hold up?; Blues take it to Kings, but have to grind out win.
Game 1: Los Angeles 1 at St. Louis 2 (OT)
Why St. Louis won: Forget what you see on the scorecard, the Blues dominated this game from the opening faceoff, both from a physical perspective and puck domination.
