With hockey in his blood, Oshawa Generals center Cole Cassels was meant to play the game. Cassels grew up around hockey thanks to his father, Andrew, who had a 16-year NHL career. Cole was the Generals’ first round selection in May 2011 and has proven to be an effective playmaker, who is also responsible in his own end of the ice.

How many players will never return to the NHL?

If the NHL season is lost, a slew of players who were established in the NHL a year ago will never play in the league again.
Books can be written about the collateral damage caused by the NHL work stoppage. But one vein seldom discussed is that about 100 regulars from 2011-12 will never again play in the NHL if 2012-13 is lost to lockout.
