Pittsburgh blew a lead as the Islanders sent Game 3 into overtime, but the Penguins recovered for the win; Minnesota's best effort yet results in big overtime victory; Senators come out on top of ugly game to take series lead; Canucks continue meltdown.
Game 3: Pittsburgh 5, NY Islanders 4 (OT) - Penguins lead 2-1
Why Pittsburgh won: Sidney Crosby. Evgeni Malkin. Kris Letang. Jarome Iginla.

Lundqvist's heroics not enough to overcome the Rangers total lack of offensive push; Leafs bounce back on Bruins; Ducks pounce after Abdelkader charge; and Kings survive late Blues surge.
Game 2: Washington 1, Rangers 0 (OT) – Washington leads 2-0
Why Washington won: Because the Capitals are clearly the faster, more talented, hungrier and superior team in this series and, for the second straight game, did not allow a lack of offensive success to waylay them.

Carey Price matched Craig Anderson's Game 1 effort and led the Canadiens to a Game 2 win; the Islanders shocked the Penguins in a comeback; the Hawks dominated the Wild with depth; San Jose fights off Kesler.
Game 2: Montreal 3, Ottawa 1 – Series tied 1-1
Why Montreal won: Because Carey Price not only matched Craig Anderson save for save, but he was the better goaltender.

An unbelievable goaltending performance gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead over Montreal, while real Caps and Rangers showed themselves in Game 1 and Jonathan Quick gave up another weak, game-winning softie.
Game 1: Ottawa 4 at Montreal 2
Why Ottawa won: It hardly feels fair to say Ottawa won this game. Goaltender Craig Anderson won it singlehandedly.

The Leafs and Islanders both returned to playoff action after long layoffs...and the rust showed. Meanwhile, the Canucks' top players were outmatched by San Jose's.
Game 1: Toronto 1 at Boston 4
Why Boston won: Because, after the Leafs jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:54 into the game, the Bruins exploited Toronto’s inexperience – defensemen Mark Fraser and Mike Kostka were abysmal and a combined minus-4 – dominated in terms of puck possession (limiting the visitors to just 20 shots on Tuukka Rask) and wore down a heavily-worked James Reimer (who stopped 36 of 40 shots) with a slew of high glove shots.

The Stanley Cup playoffs kicked off Tuesday night with a couple of OT games and an entertaining late game, too. Three more series will drop the puck Wednesday so we thought we would dedicate our first playoff edition of the Puck Panel to previewing the Bruins-Maple Leafs, Penguins-Islanders and Canucks-Sharks.

The Wild hold tight with the Hawks, but will Josh Harding hold up?; Blues take it to Kings, but have to grind out win.
Game 1: Los Angeles 1 at St. Louis 2 (OT)
Why St. Louis won: Forget what you see on the scorecard, the Blues dominated this game from the opening faceoff, both from a physical perspective and puck domination.

This year's 48-game season wasn't short on excitement or playoff races, as matchups were still being figured out on the last day of the season. The Pittsburgh Penguins in the East and the Chicago Blackhawks in the West enter as the popular favorites for the Cup, but will and unexpected team get hot at the right time, like last year's Los Angeles Kings?
Short and sweet.
