Erik Gudbranson missed the start of this season due to a shoulder injury he suffered while wakeboarding with friends in the summer. And though that unfortunate accident delayed his sophomore season, it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm Panthers management has for the hulking defenseman.

Montreal's bid for a three-peat was quashed by the Blades, who took full advantage of special teams.
MARKHAM, ONT. – As the relatively short dynasty of the Montreal Stars came to an end – a 5-2 loss to the Boston Blades in the Clarkson Cup final Saturday afternoon halted Montreal’s bid for three straight Canadian Women’s League championships – the gatekeeper of the planet’s best league for elite female players said she was pleased with the growth made in the much longer game of expanding the sport.

If Brett Connolly feels he took a step back by spending this year in the American League you would never know it by his attitude. Excluding a short stint with Canada at the WJC, Connolly played the entire 2011-12 season with Tampa Bay, but entering his sophomore campaign the organization thought it was best for him to play in the AHL.

Ray Emery has had a turbulent career that has been put into jeopardy by injuries. But so far this season with Chicago, Emery is 10-0 with a .917 SP and 2.28 GAA. THN's Ryan Kennedy traveled to Chicago where he caught up with the goaltender.
Looking at the career of Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery it's hard not to be amazed at how much difference a year can make. In 2007, Emery backstopped the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup final, but by spring 2010 he was forced to shut down his year prematurely when he was diagnosed with a hip ailment called avascular necrosis, which put his career in jeopardy.
